Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport located in Tangerang, Banten, has implemented 98 automated gates to expedite immigration checks during the yearly Eid al-Fitr migration.

According to Johanes Fanny Satria Cahya Aprianto, head of the airport’s immigration office, immigration services are fully prepared for the surge in passengers. Currently the office has deployed 531 personnel to ensure smooth and efficient immigration processing at the airport.

In order to avoid congestion and lengthy lines, the immigration office has provided comprehensive guidelines for officials, allowing them to help travelers use the automated gates effectively.

Throughout the holidays, the immigration office will keep providing rapid passport renewal services, guaranteeing quicker handling for individuals whose passports are due to expire within half a year.

Aprianto reiterated his department’s dedication to providing high-standard services and ensuring ethical conduct, specifically by avoiding unlawful charges and bribes.

Over the two-week Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2024, Indonesia, which has the biggest economy in Southeast Asia, saw 7.4 million travelers, marking a 3% rise from the corresponding timeframe in 2023.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport stayed as Indonesia’s most active airport over the holidays, with I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali coming second and Juanda International Airport in East Java taking third place.

With Eid al-Fitr nearing, Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport shut down on March 29 for Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence. This shutdown overlapped with the busiest travel time for the Islamic holiday, anticipated to be on March 31. Officials are looking into ways to reduce inconvenience caused by this overlap.
