Starting today, The Federal Polytechnic in Offa, located in Kwara State, will be hosting the 22nd iteration of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games. This event brings together 50 polytechnics from all over the nation and concludes on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

The event labeled ‘IJAKADI 2025’ will showcase both male and female athletes competing for medals across various sports such as badminton, basketball, chess, tennis, track and field, soccer, handball, judo, Scrabble, taekwondo, and volleyball, along with several others.

Dr. Kamoru Kadiri, the Rector of the Polytechnic, mentioned that this marks the first occasion the institution has hosted the NIPOGA sports competitions since its founding 33 years ago. He also noted that these events will be held across both campuses of the institution.

Kadiri mentioned that enhanced athletic venues and gear are prepared for the sporting event, along with cutting-edge multi-use sports complexes. He further stated that he envisions these games to be distinctive regarding involvement, refereeing, fair play, camaraderie, diversity, and community bonding.

Our hostels have been significantly renovated and rebuilt to guarantee the comfort of student-athletes and their representatives. Additionally, I’ve instructed the medical director to allow the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) access to all our medical facilities for these events. This includes providing ambulance services. Any deficiencies identified during the competition will be addressed promptly by the medical subcommittee established by the LOC specifically for the NIPOGA games.

As a host institution, for us the tournament isn’t solely focused on earning medals; rather, it’s centered around building relationships, overcoming boundaries, and embracing diversity.

On Monday, the Body of the National Association of Strategic Communication and Media Students from the Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies released a statement extending their congratulations to the Rector for organizing the event.

They extended their congratulations to Dr. David Oloyede, the Dean of the School of Communication and Media Studies, along with Dr. Jimoh Olorede, the Head of the Department, for successfully securing the hosting privileges for this event.

“Hosting over 50 participating higher institutions across the nation shows the upcoming sporting event is an epoch that would further showcase Dr Kadiri’s exploits as well as his administration’s milestone since his assumption of office as rector of the polytechnic.

Indeed, Fedpoffa stands as the quickest-expanding polytechnic in Nigeria, considering the significant achievements of the institution over the past 33 years since its founding.
