The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation is now in a state of grief due to the passing of its president, Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu-Baba, who succumbed to his long battle with illness during the early hours of Tuesday.

The federation issued a statement revealing that the global taekwondo community is now engulfed in grief following the announcement of the news.

“Part of the statement read, ‘HislegacyandcontributionstoTaekwon doughinNigeriaandtheContinentwillforeverremaininourminds.'”
(Note: I’ve maintained “Taekwondo” as it is since it’s a term specific to the martial art.)
A more natural-sounding alternative could be:
“Apart from the rest of the declaration, it mentioned, ‘Theimpactofhisworkandcontributionsintae kwondotoNigeriathroughoutthecontinentwillpermanentlybesecuredinemories.’”
(Here again, “Taekwondo” remains unchanged for accuracy).

The NTF reports that Saidu has been interred in accordance with Islamic customs in his birthplace of Birnin Kebbi, located in Kebbi State. He leaves behind his spouse and offspring.

Hon. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, issued a statement expressing his astonishment over Saidu’s unexpected death, calling it a significant setback for the whole sporting community.

Alhaji Saidu was a shrewd sports administrator and a dedicated athlete who made significant contributions to the development of Taekwondo in the nation.

“It is a sorrowful day for our sports community, and Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu will be deeply missed by the Sports Commission. Our thoughts are with his family during this crucial time,” he said.

The DG described Saidu as an exceptional administrator whose leadership was evident in his management of the nation’s taekwondo affairs.

The Authentic Nigeria Football & Allied Sports Supporters Club (ANFASSC) likewise expressed their sorrow over Saidu’s death.

In their statement, ANFASSC remarked, “Saidu’s zeal, leadership, and dedication to the sport will be recalled by everyone fortunate enough to have worked alongside him.”

This is a challenging time for the whole sports community, and we extend our condolences to his loved ones, colleagues, and the Taekwondo Federation.
